Richard C. Annis, OD (Retired)

After almost four decades of dedicated service to the West Michigan community, Dr. Richard C. Annis retired from active practice at the end of April 2025. His legacy of compassionate, attentive, and expert care continues to shape the way our office serves patients today.

Dr. Annis built his career on a simple philosophy: the best eye exams begin with listening. His patients valued his ability to truly hear their concerns and explain their eye health with clarity, warmth, and humor. Known for his deep clinical knowledge and gentle chairside manner, Dr. Annis earned the trust and respect of generations of families in our community.

A graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Dr. Annis finished first in his class and received numerous honors, including recognition for his excellence in the contact lens field and extensive training in children’s vision. He also completed his undergraduate studies at Calvin College, graduating with honors in 1980.

Throughout his career, Dr. Annis remained committed to lifelong learning—often completing more than 250 hours of continuing education each year, well beyond state requirements. His dedication ensured that his patients benefited from the most up-to-date advances in vision care and ocular health.

A lifelong Michigander, Dr. Annis grew up in Belmont and graduated from Rockford High School. He has been an active member of both the West Michigan Optometric Association (WMOA) and the American Optometric Association (AOA).

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Annis’s life has been shaped by faith, family, and love. He and his late wife, Dianna, shared the joy of raising three sons together. In 2023, he married Lynn, who brought new happiness and companionship into his life.

While Dr. Annis is no longer seeing patients, his influence continues to be felt every day in our office—through the standards of care he established, the patients whose lives he touched, and the legacy of excellence he leaves behind. We wish him every joy and blessing in his well-deserved retirement.
